What is Empressr

Empressr is a Software-as-a-Service application that lets you create, manage and share rich media presentations online. You can upload your own media assets such as video, audio, images and animations to your Empressr media library, import them directly from other sites like Flickr, Google, Yahoo and Photobucket or link to digital assets from around the web.

Will I still have access to my presentations after Empressr launches?

Yes, you will still be able to access your presentations once Empressr launches. However, as the system moves out of beta, we can not guarantee complete compatibility with older versions of Empressr.

Is there a limit to the number of presentations I can create?

Right now we are not limiting the amount of storage. In the near future, however, we will likely introduce limitations on storage and bandwidth and will roll out pricing plans for these.

Will I be able to get more storage space for my presentations once storage limits are instituted?

Yes, when we begin limiting storage, we will offer a number of options for users who want more storage space.

How can I get technical support?

Technical support is available at Get Satisfaction

Is there any enterprise version of the system?

Yes, with enhanced storage and reporting, a collaborative system, premium support and enhanced security features, Empressr Enterprise will be available soon. Contact us for more information!

What image formats can I use?

Empressr supports many popular image formats, including:

  • Image: JPG, GIF, BMP, PNG
  • Video: MOV, FLV, AVI
  • Animation: SWF
  • Audio: MP3

Is there a file size limitation to assets I want to upload?

We've set a limit of 10MB. However, to ensure that your Empressr presentations load quickly, we recommend optimizing most image assets so they are no larger than 1920 x 1200 pixels and saving them as JPGs with a quality setting between of 60-80. Logos and drawings from programs like Adobe Illustrator are best saved as SWF files in order to retain crisp lines.

Can I download/export/view my presentations in any other application such as Powerpoint? Or can I upload other presentation formats into Empressr?

You can upload a PowerPoint file to Empressr and use its slides as pictures (One slide equals one picture) or as a fully editable presentation in Empressr (with some losses.) Right now we do not support any download functionality, but we plan to add it in the near future.

Can other people view my presentations?

Yes, there are several ways to share your presentations. You can make a presentation public on the Empressr site, email or embed the code, or simply use the share button to grab the embed code or select the auto embed into a number of social network sites like Facebook and MySpace or even place it on your own site.

What does it mean to "publish" an Empressr presentation?

Only published presentations can be viewed outside of the editor tool. To make an Empressr presentation embeddable or accessible via direct URL, you must first publish it.

What is the difference between a public and private Empressr presentation?

When you publish an Empressr presentation you have the option to make it public or private:

  • A public presentation can be viewed in the "Recent" section by anyone who visits the Empressr.com site. It can also be viewed by anyone who has its URL or visits a site in which it is embedded.
  • A private presentation is not visible in the "Recent" section of Empressr.com site. It can also be viewed by anyone who has its URL or who visits a site in which you embedded your presentation. A private presentation can also be configured to require a password in order to view.

What version of Flash does Empressr require?

Because Empressr was built in the Adobe Flex Framework, it requires the most recent version of the Flash 9 player, but Flash 10 is recommended (click here to test).

Why do I sometimes get a message saying "A script in this movie is causing Flash Player to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"

That shouldn't happen with Empressr. If it does, the most likely cause is that you have too many browser windows open and memory is running out. The best practice when using rich internet applications like Empressr is to minimize the amount of resources your browser is using by keeping open only the sites or applications you need.

How do I make an FLV file for my video?

Upload a MOV file and we'll do the rest! Or you can use Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder or other products like On2.
